Whygo2 Washington DC
Letsgo2 employees have travelled extensively to the destinations we feature. Here are the five main reasons they would consider a visit to Washington DC.
Diverse Neighbourhoods
Washington, DC is a city of colourful and diverse neighbourhoods, filled with shops and galleries, historic homes and small museums, urban parks and spectacular gardens. There are no high rise buildings in Washington, DC as nothing is built taller than the Capitol Building. This coupled with wide, tree-lined avenues and parks giving the city an open and airy feel. There are a huge variety of ways to see DC. You can take a Bike Tour, Segway Tour or Trolley Tour. However, the best way to see the neighbourhoods is by foot.
Memorials, Museums and Monuments
Washington, DC is awash with sites to see from the famous icons of the Capitol Building and the Lincoln Memorial to the 555-foot Washington Monument where you can get great views of the city. There are a huge number of World Class Museums in Washington, DC including the National Air and Space Museum (the most visited in the World) and the International Spy Museum where you are given your own top-secret identity on arrival. You will find there is plenty to see and if you would like to delve into the fascinating history that surrounds this famous capital you will find most of these attractions are free!
Great Shopping
Washington offers everyone a chance to expand their wardrobes, with upscale boutiques, shopping malls and vibrant outdoor markets. The shops are spread throughout the city's neighbourhoods, although Georgetown, Dupont Circle and Adams Morgan have a higher concentration than the others. Georgetown is generally perceived as the main shopping area where you will find a range of the most exclusive shops from Abercombie & Fitch to Ralph Lauren as well as a vast number of speciality stores, ensuring a selection for all price ranges.
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue is the most famous icon in Washington. Take the opportunity of a tour and see the site where the worlds most powerful leaders have made many historical decisions. You will be able to visit many of the most famous rooms including the State dining room and the Gold and White East Room which is the scene of presidential receptions and weddings. You can also see portraits of past presidents in the Red room. A truly fascinating tour awaits you.
Nightlife
Beyond the inspiring monuments, the many colourful and diverse neighbourhoods have been revitalised to offer hip new restaurants and bars, stunning hotels, great nightlife, live music and theatres. Georgetown attracts many with its unique atmosphere and selection of restaurants and bars or try Adams Morgan, a vibrant neighbourhood filled with many eclectic bars and restaurants. For Jazz try U-Street which is also home to a great range of places to eat and drink the night away.
